The City of London

Wybieramy się dzisiaj do the City of London, czyli obszaru o wielkości mili kwadratowej, który znajduje się w centrum Londynu, lecz posiada odrębne prawa miejskie. Naszą wycieczkę zaczniemy od znamienitej Katedry św. Pawła, którą zbudowano po wielkim pożarze Londynu. Obok katedry znajduje się centrum handlowe, gdzie na ostatnim piętrze znajduje się taras widokowy, o czym już kiedyś wspominałam i co gorąco polecam.

We're heading to the City of London today, which is an area covering the size of a square mile. Although it's located in the central London, it has its separate rights. We will begin our tour from the visit to the St. Paul's Cathedral, which was built after the great fire of London. There is a shopping centre next to the cathedral where the top floor has an observation deck, which I highly recommend. I've already mentioned it though.

Kilkadziesiąt metrów za katedrą, znajduje się maleńki, uroczy Postman's Park, którego nazwa sprawia, że mam ochotę wysłać jakiś list.

A short distance of the cathedral, there is a tiny, charming Postman's Park. Every time I hear that name I want to send a letter.

Będąc w pobliżu, zawsze możemy wpaść do Museum of London, w którym są fajne wystawy na temat historii Londynu, szczególnie ta o XX wieku.

If we're close, we can always pop in to the Museum of London, where they have some cool exhibitions about the history of London, especially the one about the twentieth century.

Jak już wspominałam, the City jest niezależne, więc potrzebuje przecież burmistrza. Co roku w listopadzie, na terenie the City odbywa się parada, podczas której Lord Mayor przyjeżdża do pewnego sądu, w którym zostaje zaprzysiężony. Wydarzenie to odbywa się co roku, bo jego kadencja trwa zaledwie rok.

As I've already mentioned, the City is an independent entity that needs a mayor! Every year in November, there is a parade held in the City, during which the Lord Mayor arrives at a court and take an oath. This event is held every year because the mayor is elected for a term of one year only.

Ostatnią dzisiejszą atrakcją jest the Monument, czyli pomnik upamiętniający wielki pożar Londynu, który został zamieniony w taras widokowy, o czym wspominałam już tutaj kiedyś. Fajne miejsce do popatrzenia na Londyn z góry.

The last thing for today is the Monument, which commemorates the Great Fire of London. It's an observation deck these days, which I mentioned here before. It's a great place to watch London from the top.
