London Borough of Camden

Dzisiaj zapowiada się długi post-przewodnik poświęcony gminie Camden, która jest już bardzo dobrze znana wielu turystom. Z racji nazwy, wszystkim pewnie kojarzy się z targiem, lecz sam targ to niejedyna atrakcja w tamtych stronach. Już na początku zaznaczę, że oprócz miejsc, o której wspomnę dzisiaj, w tej gminie godne uwagi są również: Cartoon Museum i londyńskie zoo, których tym razem nie miałam okazji zobaczyć, ale kto wie, gdzie mnie jeszcze kiedyś nogi poniosą. Przejdę od razu do konkretów, bo dziś czeka nas długa wycieczka po wielu fajnych miejscach.

1. Na terenie gminy Camden, znajduje się British Museum, które w 2012 roku odwiedzone zostało przez ponad 5 milionów (!) turystów, wow! Większość eksponatów związana jest z historią starożytną, co sugeruje już samo wejście.

It's going to be a long post-guide today about London borough of Camden, which is already truly well-known to many visiting tourists. Because of the name, all of you probably associate it with Camden Market, but the market itself is not the only attraction in this area. At the beginning, I want to mention that in addition to the places I will show you today, you should also see Cartoon Museum and London Zoo in this borough, which are noteworthy too. I didn't have a chance to see them this time, but who knows where I will end up next time? I'll go straight to the point, because we'll have a long tour to many cool places.

1. There is the British Museum within borough, which is a really popular place, visited by more than 5 million (!) tourists in 2012, really impressive! Most of the exhibitions are about ancient history, which is even suggested by the entrance.

Eksponaty głównie przedstawiają historię starożytnej Europy i Azji. Wśród nich znalazłam wazy greckie wykonane w stylu czerwonofigurowym, które oglądaliśmy na plastyce jedynie na zdjęciach, mega uczucie. W muzeum znajduje się również 140 mumii czy też spora wystawa poświęcona kulturze dalekiego wschodu - przepięknej ceramice chińskiej czy japońskiej, malowidłom buddyjskim czy też innymi religijnym wyrobom. Na zdjęciu poniżej sędzia z czasów dynastii Ming, otoczony wazą grecką z lewej i rzymską z prawej, patrzy na Ciebie!

The exhibits are mainly connected with the history of ancient Europe and Asia. Among them I found some Greek vases with red-figure paintings on them. I saw them in the pictures on Visual Arts at school so it was so nice to see them live. The museum also has 140 mummies and a large exhibition devoted to the culture of the Far East - beautiful Chinese and Japanese ceramics and Buddhist paintings and other religious pieces of art. A judge from Ming Dynasty's times is watching you, standing between Greek vessel on his left and Roman vessel on his right!

Tej pani odpadł nos z powodu stresującej pracy stania na wystawie muzealnej, bidulka!

This lady's nose came off because of stressful work which is standing in the museum, poor she!

Warto wiedzieć, że wstęp na wystawę stałą w British Museum jest bezpłatny. Aby zobaczyć dosłownie wszystko, potrzeba paru dni, ale w jeden dzień też można zobaczyć to, co spektakularne. Mnie się w miarę podobało, choć gdybym była na wakacjach w Londynie, to nie traciłabym całego dnia na chodzenie po muzeum. A żeby było ciekawie, wystawa, która najbardziej mi się podobała, nijak nie była związana z jakimiś archeologicznymi zdobyczami, a z pieniądzem, polecam ją odwiedzić.

It's good to know that admission to the permanent exhibitions in the British Museum is free. I reckon it takes a few days to see everything, but you can also see some spectacular stuff on the one-day visit. Frankly, if I was on holidays in London, I wouldn't waste a whole day for strolling around the museum. What's interesting, the exhibition which I liked the most, is not connected with some archaeological achievements at all. I loved the exhibitions about money and I really recommend it.

2. Będąc w okolicy muzeum, można również wybrać się do Building Centre, czyli nieturystycznego miejsca, związanego z budownictwem, w którym na parterze znajduje się ogromna makieta centrum Londynu. Wrażenie robi oglądanie dużego wycinka miasta w takim stosunkowo małym pomieszczeniu. Natknęłam się na to miejsce przypadkowo i nie żałuję :)

When you're around the museum, you could also go to the Building Centre, which is a totally non-tourist place connected with building industry. There is a large model of central London on the ground floor there. It's impressive to see such a large part of the city in such a relatively small room. I came across this place by accident and I do not regret at all.

3. Kolejnym miejscem na mojej mapie zwiedzania jest Camden Market, czyli znany targ, pełen różnych mniej lub bardziej dziwnych rzeczy, a no i mają tam też ciekawe jedzenie. Na targu skusiłam się na mini bananową babeczkę, bo zauroczyły mnie takie mini-cuda, niestety nie był zbyt rewelacyjny :(
A jednym z miejsc, które mogę polecić jest Chin Chin Labs, czyli pierwsza w Europie lodziarnia, w której lody schładzane są na miejscu ciekłym azotem, chmura dymu unosząca się znad Twojej porcji podczas przygotowywania jej jest meeega! A, no i smak, który wybrałam to była specjalność tamtego tygodnia, czyli arbuz z koprem + na górę solony chips w polewie z białej czekolady, pycha!

3. Another place on my map of London sightseeing was the Camden Market which is a quite famous place, filled with a variety of more or less strange things and very interesting food stalls too. I tried a mini cupcake banana at the market, because of its cute size but it wasn't sensational at all.
However, I've got one places that I can recommend. That is Chin Chin Labs, which is Europe's first ice cream parlour where ice cream is cooled with liquid nitrogen! They are preparing it while you're watching! A cloud of smoke rising up from your ice cream and you're just staggered! Oh, I chose their speciality of the week when I was there, which was watermelon with dill + salted chips coated with white chocolate, and it was yummy!

4. Zmęczeni całym tym chodzeniem, zwiedzaniem, oglądaniem, zawsze możemy udać się do parku Hampstead Heath, gdzie, w słoneczny dzień, można spędzić bogaty w relaks i wypoczynek czas. A jeżeli jesteśmy mega nastawieni na podziwianie Londynu, to w tymże parku można wejść na pagórek Parliament Hill, skąd rozpościera się malownicza panorama Londynu, czyli przecudowny widok! Fajne w tym miejscu jest też to, że jest są tam miejsca bardziej 'dzikie' niż w innych parki, nie ma tu aż tylu dokładnie wytyczonych, wybetonowanych ścieżek, mapek na każdym kroku, i innych atrakcji, przyciągających tłumy.

4. When you're tired of all the walking, sightseeing, watching, the best place to rest is the Hampstead Heath. You can the the time full of relaxation there especially on the sunny day. If you're obsessed about admiring London, you can always climb the Parliament Hill in the park, which offers a picturesque skyline of London, which is an absolutely gorgeous view! The nice thing about this place is also the fact that there are some 'wilder' places than the other parks, where there aren't so many carefully made out concreted pavements, maps and other facilities attracting crowds.

5. Gratką dla fanów Harrego Pottera jest dworzec King's Cross, na którym znajduje się wszystkim bardzo dobrze tabliczka: Peron 9 i 3/4. Byłam tam dwa razy: pierwszy raz, gdy miejsce to wiało pustkami, a raz ze znajomą musiałam odstać w niebotycznej kolejce dla zrobienia sobie zdjęcia, ech. Z przekory więc wybrałam szalik Slytherin'u, a jak! A, bo nie wiem, czy wiecie, ale czasem można trafić tam na pana fotografa, który udostępnia szaliki, robi zdjęcia i je sprzedaje, ale zawsze ktoś inny może nam zrobić zdjęcie naszym aparatem i parę funtów zaoszczędzone :D Szkoda tylko, że ściana ta nie jest faktycznym peronem 9 i 3/4, który grany był przez faktyczne perony 4 i 5.

5. Harry Potter's fans will probably visit King's Cross Station and its Platform 9 3/4. So did I. I went there twice: the first time it was empty. But second time I got there with my friend, we had to queue for ages! That's why I took Slytherin's scarf as a revenge. It's time for a useful tip: I'm not sure if you know but sometimes you can meet the photographer there who provides scarves, takes pictures and sells them. Remember, you can always ask someone else to take a picture of you with our camera so you can save a few pounds. :D Actually, it's a pity that this wall it is not the real platform 9 3/4, which was played by actual platforms 4 and 5.

6. Ani trochę nie jestem fanką zakupów w towarzystwie masy innych ludzi, co ma często miejsce w sklepach na Oxford Street, więc nie będzie tutaj przewodnika po sklepach.
Zacznę jednak pochwalenia się, iż zimą dostałam voucher na bilety do teatru od mojej host rodziny jako nagrodę za dobre sprawowanie. Dlatego też o Oxford Street mogę jedynie wspominać przy okazji mojej wizyty w teatrze Dominion na spektaklu We will rock you, w którym wykorzystano piosenki zespołu Queen. Spektakl zabawny, pełen dobrej muzyki, więc mega miło go wspominam. :)
A, przypomniało mi się jeszcze, że Ox. St. kojarzę też chińszczyzny w China Express, lokal wyglądem nie zachęca, ale jedzenie wyjątkowo dobre i w miarę tanie. Wybrałam miks trzech smaków z ryżem: kurczak w sosie pomarańczowym, fasolowym i trzecim, słodko-kwaśnym. :D

6. I'm not a fan of shopping in crowded places at all, which are often the stores in Oxford Street, so don't expect shopping guides here, sorry.
Let me begin, though, with a little show off. I received a theatre voucher from my host family last winter as a reward for my good behaviour. This is why, I can only talk about Oxford Street in the context of my visit to the Dominion Theatre to see We will rock you . They use Queen's songs in the performance so the show is funny and full of great music. It's a really pleasant memory.
I totally forgot about my other association with Ox. St. which is about Chinese food in China Express. That place maybe does not encourage with its interior but the food is truly delicious and reasonably cheap. I had a mix of three chicken flavors (orange, bean and swear&sour sauce) there with rice in set. :D

7. Oprócz tego, po gminie Camden warto spacerować, odkrywać.

8. Teraz powiem tylko - KERB, czyli targ z przepysznym jedzeniem na Granary Square, zaraz za dworcem King's Cross. Mimo to, plac ten jest w cichym i spokojnym miejscu, nad kanałami Regent's, przez co jest to idealne miejsce na oddanie się świetnemu jedzeniu. W okolicy znajduje się platforma widokowa do podziwianiu placu budowy...którą ja jednak wykorzystałam do obserwowania mojego ulubionego targu.

8. I'll just say KERB. It's the market with delicious food in a great place. The Granary Square, where KERB takes place, is just behind King's Cross station. However, the square is in a quiet place, next to the Regent's canal, which makes it an ideal place for admiring great food. Oh, there is a nearby viewing platform to enjoy the building site ... which I used to watch my favourite food market.

Pyszności, które jadłam to: na pierwszym zdjęciu danie główne z The Ribman, czyli rib meat rolls with BBQ sauce, czyli mięso z żeberek w bułce z sosem barbecue. Drugie zdjęcie to mój deser z You doughnut, czyli mini pączki z cukrem waniliowym, polane ciepłym solonym karmelem przyprószone mini piankami. Uwielbiam

8. This is what I had there for a main course a brilliant rib meat roll with BBQ sauce at The Ribman which you can see in the first picture. In the second picture you can see my dessert from You doughnut. These were mini doughnuts with vanilla sugar, topped with warm salt caramel and mini marshmallows. It was gorgeous!
