Przychodzę dzisiaj do was z krótką wycieczką po gminie Lambeth, w której nie ma nic znamienitego dla zwykłego turysty, oprócz oczywiście najbardziej popularnego koła młyńskiego w Europie - London Eye. Koło zostało zbudowane z okazji wkroczenia w nowe tysiąclecie i od tego czasu przyciąga spore rzesze odwiedzających.
Today I'm here to present you my short trip around the borough of Lambeth. Unfortunately, there is nothing outstanding for a casual tourist in this area. Except the London Eye, of course, I can't miss this spot. The Ferris wheel was built to celebrate the beginning of the new millennium. It attracts the masses of visitors every day since then.
Cena za przejażdżkę London Eye skutecznie odstrasza, więc nie planowałam skuszenia się na taką rozrywkę. Jednak pewnego styczniowego poranka odkryłam, że w następną sobotę pierwsze 500 osób, które rano stawi się pod London Eye, przejedzie się nim za darmo! Zdziwiona, doczytałam, że zarządcy London Eye chcą w ten sposób uczcić zakończenie się olimpijskiego roku, a uczestnicy proszeni byli o podzielenie się zdjęciami z przejazdu London Eye pod specjalnym hashtagiem na twitterze.
Zgodnie z poprzednimi doświadczeniami, ustawiłam się w kolejce dwie godziny przed otwarciem, a przede mną stało już ponad sto osób. Sama przejażdżka była niezła, jednakże pogoda tego dnia mocno nie dopisała, ofiarując mgłę i deszcz. Stwierdzam też, że London Eye jest dość przereklamowanym miejscem na podziwianie panoramy Londynu, a już totalnie się do tego nie nadaje w dni deszczowe, bo krople deszczu na kapsułach będą dawać się we znaki.

I was effectively detered from taking a ride on the London Eye because of the price. One January day last year, I found out that following Saturday the first 500 people who show up in the queue at the London Eye, will have a ride on it for free! That's a perfect offer for me, I thought straight away. To my surprise, the London Eye managers let people have a free ride to celebrate the end of the Olympic year. Moreover, participants were asked to share their photos from the ride via a special hashtag on twitter.
According to the previous experience, I turned up in a line two hours before the opening and there were already hundreds of people in front of me! I enjoyed my ride, honestly, but the weather was dreadful that day, full of fog and rain. I think the London Eye is quite an overrated place to admire the skyline of London. What's more, I don't think it's suitable on the rainy, foggy days because the drops stay on capsules and obscure the view.

No dobra, w Lambeth jest jeszcze jedna perełka, którą jest Southbank Centre. Jest to chyba najbardziej kreatywne miejsce w Londynie, gdzie nieustannie dzieje się coś ciekawego. Ja miałam okazję wybrać się tam na festiwal czekolady, a także zobaczyć świetne przedstawienie "Queen's knickers" o zagubionej bieliźnie królewskiej. Polecam regularnie sprawdzać wydarzenia w Southbank Centre, bo naprawdę wiele z nich będzie godna uwagi.
Okay, there is one more interesting place in Lambeth which is the Southbank Centre. It's a real gem, trust me. This is perhaps the most creative place in London, where there is something cool going on all the time. I took part in their lovely chocolate festival, and saw a funny, amusing performance - "Queen's knickers" about the lost royal underwear. I recommend checking events at the Southbank Centre regularly, because a lot of them are worth attending.
