London Borough of Merton

W czasie tegorocznych rozgrywek turnieju tenisowego w Wimbledon, pomyślałam, że to świetna okazja odwiedzenia gminy Merton i pooddychania spoconą, pełną tenisowych piłeczek, atmosferą. Aby zobaczyć rozgrywki, nie tylko można tradycyjnie kupić bilet, ale też ustawić się w kolejce do darmowego wejścia lecz ta zazwyczaj jest...dość długa. Toteż spacer po okolicy musiał mi wystarczyć, a podczas niego nacieszyłam się ogromem zielono-fioletowych, czyli tradycyjnych kolorów turnieju, transparentów. O, i jeszcze widziałam złotą skrzynkę pocztową i nie, to nie anomalia a sposób uhonorowania brytyjskich złotych medalistów z Olimpiady i Paraolimpiady, które w 2012 roku miały miejsce w Londynie. Ta obok kortów Wimbledon jest na cześć Andy'iego Murray'a, który na Olimpiadzie zdobył złoty medal w tenisie, a żeby było ciekawie, to wygrał też tegoroczny turniej, którego opary wdychałam za bramą.

During the tennis tournament in Wimbledon this year, I thought it could be a great opportunity to visit the tennis village in the borough of Merton. I wanted to savour the sweaty, full of tennis balls, atmosphere. If you want to see the games, you can not only buy a ticket, but also queue up for free entry but this usually is a very time-consuming way as the queues are very very long. That's why, the walk around the area had to be sufficient for me. While strolling, I noticed loads of green-purple banners which are the traditional colours of the tournament. Oh, and I even saw a gold mailbox and no, it's not weird. It's a way the Royal Mail honoured all British gold medalists of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, which took place in London in 2012. The one next to the Wimbledon courts honours Andy Murray's gold medal in tennis at the Olympics. The interesting thing is that he also won the tournament this year, the same one I was infected by its atmosphere.
