Zaanse Schans

Bez wątpienia dobrze się bawiłam, skoro sześć tygodni w Amsterdamie minęło mi tak szybko. Od tygodnia jestem już z powrotem w Krakowie, by wieść studencki żywot. I aby poprawić sobie humor, powspominam trochę i opowiem Ci o tym, co się u mnie działo. A zacznę od rowerowej przejażdżki do Zaanse Schans. W sumie byłam tam już kiedyś, ponad rok temu, z moją host rodziną, ale wtedy jakoś już zmierzchało, więc niewiele zobaczyliśmy. A światło dziennie jest tam przydatne, bo Zaanse Schans to skansen wiatraków nad rzeką Zaan. Kiedyś znajdowały się u szczytu sławy, lecz z biegiem czasu zostały wyparte przez maszyny parowe i stały się stereotypowym symbolem i atrakcją turystyczną Holandii. Na terenie skansenu są też tradycyjne budynki, w których mieszczą się przede wszystkim sklepiki dla turystów. Szczególnie polecam Ci wizytę w tamtejszym warsztacie chodaków, który organizuje co kilkadziesiąt minut darmowe pokazy ich wytwarzania.W Zaanse Schans swoje muzeum ma też sieć supermarketów Albert Heijn, która od jednego osiedlowego sklepiku w małej chatce przeszła do dominacji na rynku spożywczym w całym kraju.

Undeniably I had loads of fun during my six weeks in Amsterdam because they passed so quickly. I'm back in Krakow again to continue my studies. To cheer myself up, I'd like to look back on my holidays and tell you a bit more about things I did. I'll start with my bike trip to Zaanse Schans. I was there over a year ago with my host family. However, we visited it quite late in the afternoon so it was already quite dark outside. Daylight is quite useful there as Zaanse Schans is an open-air museum of windmills by the river Zaan. They were once very popular but over the time they were replaced by steam engines and became a stereotypical symbol and tourist attraction of the Netherlands. You can also see some traditional buildings there which are mainly shops for tourists. I highly recommend going to a house with clogs workshop in which you'll be presented how they are produced. There is also the Museum of Albert Heijn which went from one small shop to a domination of the grocery market in the whole country.

Do Zaanse Schans z centrum Amsterdamu da się dojechać bezpośrednio autobusem 391, ale straci się przy tym wiele przepięknych widoków. Wycieczka rowerowa to jakieś 20 km pedałowania w jedną stronę, ale jedziemy przez obszar zwany Laag Holland - Nizinna Holandia, który nasze trudy wynagradza przepięknym polderowo-łąkowym krajobrazem.

You can easily reach Zaanse Schans by 391 bus from Amsterdam central station but you will miss a chance to see many beautiful views. If you decide to go on a bike, it's about 20 km one way from the city centre. You'll go through an area called Laag Holland - Lowland Holland. It's a landscape full of pretty-looking polders and meadows which will definitely reward you with the effort of biking.

Tego samego dnia w Amsterdamie akurat odbywał się festiwal katarynek, na który oczywiście pojechałam. Wydaje mi się, że katarynki są dość popularnym sportem w tej części Europy: Haarlem ma całe muzeum im  poświęcone, spacery po Amsterdamie codziennie umila katarynka w okolicy Dam/Kalverstraat, a od kilku lat Amsterdam gości we wrześniu katarynkowy festiwal (jeżeli Cię zainteresował, to szukaj go pod hasłem: Draaiorgel Festival)!

On the same day there was a barrel organ festival taking place in Amsterdam which I couldn't miss. It seems to me that the barrel organ are quite popular in this part of Europe: Haarlem has a whole museum dedicated to them, there is one playing in Dam/Kalverstraat every day and every year in mid-September Amsterdam hosts an entire festival about them (if you are interested just google: Draaiorgel Festival)!
