Zmagając się z zimą, nie pozostaje mi nic innego jak powspominać ciepły, letni dzień, kiedy to wybrałam się na wycieczkę do Cambridge. Wakacje trwały w pełni, więc studenci już dawno opuścili to miasto, ustępując chodników turystom. Pod tym względem była to koszmarna wizyta, miałam wrażenie, że całą ludność miasta stanowili w tym dniu turyści, czyhający na każdym kroku.
Po wyjściu ze stacji, od razu udałam się na szybki rekonesans po mieście, by odkryć, że centrum jest niewielkie, przez co przeszłam je wzdłuż i wszerz parę razy tamtego dnia.

Struggling with the winter, I want to look back on the summery day, when I went on a trip to Cambridge. The students have already broken up for the summer holidays so they left the city, making some space for tourists on the pavements. However, my visit was a nightmare on that score. I got the feeling that the entire population of Cambridge was made up of the tourists that day. The visitors were literally at every turn.
After leaving the station, I went straight for a quick wander around the city. I discovered that the centre is pretty small so I went around it a few times that day.

Atrakcyjność turystyczna Cambridge kręci się głównie wokół uniwersytetu. Dla większości, zwiedzanie miasta polega na chodzeniu od uczelni do uczelni i podziwianiu mniej więcej tego samego, tylko opatrzonego innym herbem. Jednakże Cambridge to przepiękne miejsce, pełne przepięknych budynków i wąskich uliczek, w których po prostu trzeba się zgubić i chłonąć ich urok. The tourist spots in Cambridge are mainly connected with the university. Most of people just walk from one college to another while sightseeing the city. That's why they admire more or less - the chapels, courtyards and so on just have different coats of arms. Cambridge is a beautiful place, full of beautiful buildings and narrow streets. You just should get lost and absorb their charm. Otherwise, you may be feeling that there is nothing interesting there beyond academic issues.

Podziwiając budynki uniwersyteckie, nie wolno zapomnieć, że tymi samymi ścieżkami stąpali posiadacze wybitnych umysłów jak Newton, Kelvin czy Darwin. A jest to możliwe, bo uniwersytet w Cambridge jest przecież trzecim najstarszym unwersytetem na świecie, a jego mury widziały już wiele.

Wondering at the university buildings, you can't forget that the same routes where frequented by owners of the greatest minds in the world like Newton, Kelvin or Darwin. It's possible because the University of Cambridge is the third-oldest university in the world and its walls have seen a lot.

Do kompleksu uniwersyteckiego należą również muzea, między innymi to poniżej, rodu Fitzwilliam, w którym znajduje się kolekcja obrazów i eksponatów antycznych.

The university complex consists also of museums. The one below is Fitzwilliam Museum which hosts paintings and ancient exhibits.
